Huge Bear is one of the more unique tasting experiences in downtown Calistoga. Located in the historic Calistoga National Bank building dating back to 1909, just a year before the Wine Way Inn was built, the renovated space is clean sleek and modern with a touch of the old school bank flare. Within this space, in the heart of Napa Valley, you will be able to taste wines with fruit sourced from Knights Valley and Sonoma Coast. This gives you a sense of how our microclimates contribute to the terroir of the wine.
We tried a flight of four different wines, ranging from an un-oaked Sauvignon Blanc to a 97% Petit Verdot “Ursa Gigantes.” The wines were very approachable, yet each one had its own special characteristics. Within the tasting room there is plenty of seating, to make your tasting experience a little more personal.
The wines are casual and elegant, showcasing female wine maker Meredith Lane’s unique taste of Sonoma County wines. Pricing varies from $25-$50 a bottle, and the tasting fee is $15. This winery is a must see while staying in Calistoga, just watch out for the bear that guards the door!
