Passing an Olympic size pool, soaring palm trees and a gorgeous outdoor seating area your mind is transposed to an oasis. This is what you see walking into Solbar Restaurant at Solage Resort and Spa in beautiful Calistoga. Attention to detail, the prompt service and the all-around feel of hospitality throughout the place makes you feel truly appreciated and taken care of. You can tell right away that they have a Michelin Star for a reason. Surrounded by calming tones on the walls and simple yet rustic furniture and decor, the dining room and lounge area are very comfortable places to spend a few minutes for a quick drink or to linger for most of the day.
My girlfriend and I went to this establishment for our Valentines Day celebration. We decided to eat in the lounge/bar area for a late lunch. It was relatively slow, most likely due to the time of day between the main Lunch and Dinner hours. Overall the Solage resort targets well-heeled visitors to the Napa Valley, but drop in for a bite, as we did, and you will be welcomed with open arms!
Our bartender/waitress Mel was extremely charming and well-informed about the cocktail and food program. We started our meal with some fresh oysters served simply with a sherry mignonette and lemon wedges. It was the perfect start to a romantic day. We then moved into the lentils and sweet potato Flatbread. This dish consisted of freshly baked flatbread with a sweet potato puree, spiced lentils and topped with a lime accented yogurt sauce on top. This was a very unique and filling dish. Some of the other items we tried were the pork and ginger gyoza, shrimp lettuce wraps and the pork steam buns.
The main dining room does offer a full breakfast, lunch and dinner menu which features locally sourced proteins and vegetables presented with modern techniques and flair. Chef Brandon Sharp prides himself on offering only the best ingredients to his restaurant and resort goers. For a casual and light dinner, or for a meal to impress your loved one, SolBar at Solage Resort and Spa is a go-to recommendation for our guests at our Napa Valley Inns.
