When we first came to live in Napa Valley we heard about La Toque because of its Michelin star status and reputation for featuring truffles and wild mushrooms, some of our shared culinary and foraging passions. At that time, Chef Ken Frank had his restaurant at the quaint little Rancho Caymus property in Rutherford. We had the pleasure of eating there on a few occasions and Nick even did an occasional Porcini for Dining trade when his trips to the mountains were particularly bountiful.
In (year?) the restaurant moved to its current location in the Westin in downtown Napa and the short additional distance plus the many great choices in between caused us to overlook our old favorite until this year when we returned with friends for a wonderful evening. The chef’s tasting menu, the helpful wine advice and friendly, professional service made it a meal to remember. The location is modern hotel chic and honestly could be in any major city. However, the attention to detail and wine pairing advice showed that this is still one of Napa Valley’s wine country dining icons! Highly recommended.
