There’s more to the Napa Valley wine scene than just sipping local blends. Get active and have some good old fashioned fun with grape crushing this season! Harvest is around the corner and grape crushing is so fun, it should be on everyone’s bucket list! Enjoy some laughs, get dirty out in the California sun, and make lasting memories with the people you love.
Join us for the harvest and crush in Napa Valley this August, September, and October during the peak time of year.
Grape stomping takes a step away from the original way of wine making and uses bare feet to get the grape juices flowing instead of with using a press. Historically, it has been part of the process of wine making but it’s also a ton of fun! On your upcoming summer trip to one of our Calistoga bed and breakfasts, check this fun activity off your summer to-do list and enjoy some laughs and fun memories. Dress casual and be ready to get down and dirty. Find information on the best wineries to visit near our inns. Most wineries use more modern techniques now but you can still find a few holding special stomping sessions.
Want to see wine country on wheels? Take advantage of rentals from the Calistoga Bikeshop and take a tour. Ride along up to 40 miles of scenic roads and stop along the way to taste high-quality wines at amazing wineries around Calistoga wine country. Learn of all the different bike tours you can enjoy here.
Expert Tip: Surprise your loved one for a birthday or anniversary with this one-of-a-kind experience!

A Monumental Event in Napa Valley Wine History
This year marks a momentous time in the history of American wine. We are wine enthusiasts here at our Napa Valley bed and breakfasts and are proud to learn of exciting times that made Napa Valley wine what it is today – we think you will appreciate this too!
On May 24, 1976, Stag’s Leap’s Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Calistoga’s Chateau Montelena Chardonnay beat out the very best of Bordeaux and Burgundy at a blind tasting event in France. The judges? France’s best wine experts. The results rocked the wine world and started Napa Valley down the path to being recognized as perhaps the world’s finest wine growing region.
Why are we particularly thrilled by this? Not only does it speak to why Napa Valley is so greatly known as a beloved wine country, but the 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay was the winning white at the Paris Tasting and Chateau Montelena is right around the corner from our Napa Valley inns! Less than three miles down the road you will find the gorgeous winery. Visit on your next Napa Valley getaway and experience the winery that produced the award-winning Chardonnay and put Napa Valley on the map! Soak up the culture and enjoy a tasting or two.
Chateau Montelena has a philosophy… “Make the best. Period.” And that’s what they do. Napa Valley’s unique soil type produces some of the best wine. The multiple layers of gravel, sand, and silt are deep and well draining which leads to intensely concentrated grapes that make the deepest, richest, most flavorful wines. Spending time at Chateau Montelena will be an experience you will never forget. From the peaceful Napa Valley setting to the stone castle and Chinese garden, to the wines made by the same family that produced that award-winning Chardonnay back in 1976, you will love this stunning winery. Enjoy the best wine in the greatest location. Savor sips of the world-renowned wine in the tasting room daily, 9:30 AM to 4 PM. Get more information about visiting Chateau Montelena.

Vermeil Wines is a perfect place to spend an afternoon in Calistoga. In fact, many of our guests ask us where they can go after a day of touring the wineries. Vermeil Wines is just a quick walk from both of our inns- Calistoga Wine Way and Craftsman Inn– with weekend hours going well into the evening. We suggest you make this stop an integral part of your trip.
Upon arriving to the tasting room you will be presented with a list of several wines to choose from ranging from a lightly oaked and floral chardonnay, to their bolder and delicious Charbono. With an extensive variety of wines there is sure to be an option for everyone in your group.
For some local history of Calistoga, and to experience the taste of fruit sourced from generational Frediani Vineyards, Vermeil Wines is the place for you.
